Diets Never Work!

Diets = deprivation, temporary changes and not something you’d want to do forever, which isn’t sustainable because it’s only temporary at best. How long can you really eat cabbage soup 6-7 days a week, eat nothing sweet, have nothing flavorful or consume little boxed meals and prepackaged snack 3 times a day, day in and day out?

How often have you told yourself that this is the one? You might have seen the diet on the internet, in a magazine, popular blog or heard about it from your best friend. Did you reach and maintain your goals? You probably didn’t if you are reading this. You aren’t the only one, so don’t feel bad. Dieting sets us up for failure and I’ll tell you why.

Diets only work as long as you are doing them, successfully. You can eat healthy forever and still be satisfied. The words diet and healthy eating do not mean the same thing though they can be interchangeable when the word diet is used correctly, meaning what you eat and not how you eat.

Most diets aren’t pleasant but since they are for the short term we put up with them. I don’t care what you do for your weight loss, if it’s not something you plan to do permanently you are on a diet.

I’ve had diets where I ate whatever I wanted, no matter how unhealthy and then drank a shake so horrible tasting that I basically had to hold my nose to get it down or concentrate on not throwing it back up. I’ve been on diets so restrictive that it actually made me cry.

Yes, I admit it. If this helps someone then you knowing I cried over a diet is worth the embarrassment. I still get teased to this day by my husband, children and my mom LOL. It’s funny now but back then it was terrible. I couldn’t have salt, sugar or even healthy foods if they weren’t on the list.

Can you imagine not being able to have healthy fruits and vegetables because they aren’t on a list? I’ve even tried, precooked meals, but guess what … I like my own or my daughter’s or mom’s cooking better.

I had to sit back and think: Do I really need to be living this way? Can I live this way forever? Heck no, so the diets went out the window.

I tried fasting to lose weight. It worked at first and yes I loss weight but then I started wanting to eat when I wasn’t supposed to and I actually felt bad for wanting to do what is natural, eat when I’m hungry. Back to the drawing board! I am done with diets. Healthy eating is where it is at because diets suck.

I never thought of myself as a yo-yo until my Dr. called me that. I was offended at first but he was right and he told me like it was. He said I was killing myself and I was because I would only end up bigger and bigger so for all the time, tears and struggling to stick to a diet, I gained absolutely nothing. How is that fair? It isn’t, but only I could decide I wanted off the big hamster wheel of dieting and wanted something better for myself.

I drink Shakeology for help with cravings, the nutrients, digestive help, and other health benefits and I eat healthy. There is no short cut. My plan is sustainable because it isn’t hurtful or restrictive.

Do you know how many healthy foods there are out there? You never have to be bored with your food. I have made fitness a part of my life. I can’t shovel food in my mouth, be sedentary all day long and expect to have the body of an Olympic champion. It’s just not going to happen. I had to make real changes and now that I have, I have to continue with them in order for me to benefit.

Take a look at the structure of the plan that you are on? Look at all of the things you have to omit versus the things you have to add. If you can keep this up forever, you have a lifestyle. If not you have a diet.

Want to fail at losing weight either now or in the future? Go on a diet, it’s that easy. Most people do not keep off the weight loss during a “DIET”, in fact they usually end up gaining more than they took off.

I can truly attest to that fact. Can’t count how many times I’ve dieted and what am I doing now? Making lifestyle changes! I could have been made nutrition and fitness a top priority instead of looking for a quick fix. Better late than never. Learn from my mistakes or from your own if you’re making the same mistakes that I have. Diets DO NOT WORK!

For real, long-term weight loss to occur, permanent changes are needed. Why be a yo-yo when you can have long term success. Just say no to diets!!!!!
